BARBERTON: City Council approved grant requests to fund the 2013 Lake Anna Concert Series and the 2013 Summer Arts Festival at Monday night’s meeting.

The concert series will receive $20,000 to pay for the fireworks and the concerts, and $10,000 will go to the arts festival.

Council also approved a grant request from the Parks and Recreation Commission for a fitness program dedicated to senior citizens. The Committing Seniors to Fitness program will teach seniors exercises such as tai chi and yoga.

In other business, council approved Butcher & Son Excavating Inc. as the lowest bidder for Barberton’s residential demolition program, funded by Moving Ohio Forward.

Barberton received about $1.3 million from the Attorney General’s office to demolish vacant and dilapidated homes that have decreased the values of surrounding homes, Mayor Bill Judge said.
