BARBERTON: An 86-year-old Barberton woman was hospitalized after two people pushed her to the ground and stole her purse, police said.

The woman was being treated Friday for serious injuries, police said. Her condition was listed as stable, Barberton Patrolman Marty Eberhart said.

Ricky Boykins, 33, of Akron, and Justice Stewart, 18, of Barberton, were being held in the Summit County Jail on robbery charges.

Police said the robbery occurred about 5 p.m. Wednesday at 25th Street Northwest and Wooster Road West after the woman exited a bus. Police said Boykins and Stewart knocked her to the ground, took her purse and ran.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Eberhart said. The extent of her injuries was not released. A police investigation led to the arrest Friday of Boykins and Stewart.

Boykins is a former prison inmate and has had multiple felony convictions. He is on probation after being convicted of domestic violence and burglary. His bond is $500,000.

Stewart’s arrest Friday was her only local case, according to online court records. Her bond is $250,000. Both are scheduled to appear in Barberton Municipal Court on Wednesday.
