BARBERTON: The Board of Education voted Monday night to submit a five-year, 8.45-mill levy to be placed on the May 7 ballot.

The decision follows a Jan. 23 meeting where members proposed three separate levies of $3 million, $2.75 million and $2.5 million.

Since then, Ryan Pendleton, district treasurer/chief financial officer, calculated the 8.45 millage that would generate $3 million each year for the school district.

“It seems pretty unanimous that we would submit the $3 million levy and not reduce the amount,” Pendleton said.

The Board of Elections certification deadline for the levy is Wednesday.

The district’s most recent levy attempt was five year, 8.52-mills, which failed in November. The district passed its last operating levy was eight years ago.
