BARBERTON: City Council voted Monday night to return the salaries of the director of public service, the clerk of council and the director of safety back to what they were receiving as of Dec. 31, 2009.
Because of the poor economy, these employees agreed to take a pay cut for 2010. When the economy did not improve, the lowered wages continued through 2011 and 2012.
Effective immediately, Elwood Palmer, director of public service will see a $2,890.02 increase; Marta Savula the director of safety will see a $2,350.81 increase and Sue Matuch, the clerk of council will receive $1,562.84 more per year.
Palmer will now make $73,165.02, Matuch will make $39,565.39 and Savula will make $59,516.49.
Also, city employee Paula Beagle was recognized for her 30 years of service to Barberton.
Beagle has worked in various government positions as deputy clerk/computer system analyst in the municipal court and the clerk of court’s office. She also worked as information systems administrator.
“Every room we walked in to, Paula was working on something or was being called to fix something,” council member Terry Avant said, “So even though we never worked with you, we will miss you.”
Council also approved a $1,000 grant to Parks and Recreation for Park Play program activities.
